Rachel Wilson - Midwife

After many years of collaborating with Saul on numerous occasions through my work as a private midwife, I am thrilled to now be working alongside him at Elsternwick Obstetrics. I look forward to providing some of your pregnancy care, with a special focus on education, preparing for birth and postpartum. I provide individualised, evidence-based, holistic care, and am passionate about empowering women to make informed choices. I am also very excited to be providing you with 6 weeks postnatal care after you have your baby, both in your home and in the clinic. Breastfeeding support is a particular passion of mine, and love supporting families through the magic and challenges of the first 6 weeks postpartum. I also have a strong interest in nutrition and holistic health.

Additionally, I am a shared care affiliate with multiple public hospitals, so if you are planning on birthing in a public hospital, you can see me for the majority of your pregnancy care, enabling you to receive the gold standard midwifery continuity of care, long appointments, and lots of education. I will also see you for 6 weeks postpartum, tailored to your needs.

I was born and raised in the beautiful Lake District in England, with 3 years also spent living in Italy. I obtained my BA (Hons) Midwifery degree from the University of York, England, in 2010-2013. Between 2013-2016, I worked for a caseloading midwifery practice in Cheshire, England, providing full continuity of care through pregnancy, birth and postpartum. During this time I also trained as a hypnobirthing teacher.

I moved to Melbourne, Australia in 2016, to settle in the country I love. I jumped straight into undertaking postgraduate studies to become an endorsed midwife (which enables me to prescribe medications, order blood tests and ultrasounds, and have a Medicare provider number to claim rebates for your appointments), and also became a shared care affiliate with multiple public hospitals.

My first 8 years in Australia were spent working at a private midwifery practice as a caseloading midwife, and as a midwifery educator. I will be continuing this educator role, so can arrange to see you for a private 1:1 birth education class or breastfeeding/newborn care class, in your own home. I also regularly teach group infant and child first aid classes, and student midwife workshops.

I look forward to supporting you through your pregnancy journey and transition to parenthood.
